Primary Purpose of
Department/Agency:
The Hocking County Engineer's Office has the responsibility of all
maintenance, repair, widening, resurfacing, reconstruction and
construction of all roads and bridges on the 211-mile county highway
system. This includes in part: 470 acres of pavement; 1,200 acres of
road right-of-way, 296 bridges, thousands of feet of culvert, 422 miles
of roadside ditches, and thousands of road signs and traffic control
devises.
The Hocking County Engineer is also the engineering advisor for all
the Township Trustees for the maintenance, repair, widening,
resurfacing, and reconstruction of their 398-mile Township road system.
The bridges on Township roads are the responsibility of the County
Engineer.
The County Engineer's Drafting and Mapping Department updates
property owner and road maps, assigns house numbers and checks survey
and deeds for accuracy.
Major Accomplishments During 2009:
County crews replaced 8 major bridges on the following roads; Big
Pine Road, Strous Lane, Shriner Street, Bremen Road, Laurel Run Road,
O'Neal Road, Essex Road, and Dunlap Road.
24.25 miles of road were paved with hot mix. These included Big Pine,
Harble Griffith, Saving Hollow, and Buena Vista Road (east). County
crews placed new stone berms on 485 land miles of these newly
paved roads.
26.68 miles of new centerline and 57.29 miles of edge line were
painted.
Our bridge crew installed 1,813 feet of various sizes of polyethylene
and concrete pipe, while 1,227 feet of culvert pipe were installed by
contract.
A new salt storage facility was built by contract with prep work done
by county crew, which consists of two 60'x98.5' structures each with
3,000 ton capacity. Pure salt is stored in one, while a salt/grit
mixture is stored in the other.
